kapha dosha earth and water

Kapha is a marriage of Earth and Water. A sacred union between two powerful elements (and one worthy of an ode to Kapha dosha).

Kapha tends to get a bad reputation for being sticky, sluggish, and slow…
While that is an accurate assessment of SOME of Kapha’s qualities, today I want to talk about all the reasons why we should change that story!

For starters, Kapha dominant people are the best! They provide the glue that holds everything and everyone in their lives together.

This dosha brings the smooth and unctuous element that allows for everything to hold together and flow smoothly.

February is love month and no other dosha deserves more love than Kapha!

During this time of year, everyone’s working to try to reduce this dosha. It is, after all, the season where this dosha can accumulate the most and cause weight gain and digestive discomfort.

However, all of this distracts from the many beautiful aspects of Kapha that we often overlook.

It’s time for some Kapha dosha praise!

Let’s dive into all of the ways that Kapha dosha can help you thrive, as well as all of the ways that you can work to keep this water and earthy dosha in balance in your life and the lives of others.

Some Reasons Why You Should Love Kapha Dosha…

  • Kapha dosha elements represent the perfect marriage between the water and earth.
  • Kapha dosha is responsible for the myelin sheath (fatty tissue) that cushions the neuro pathways in the brain and is also responsible for memory retention.
  • People who are dominant in this dosha are calm, wise, and grounded.
  • Your stamina and staying power in your workouts and yoga practice come from kapha.

Kapha Balancing Lifestyle

Prioritize warmth to keep Kapha from freezing up the body and the heart. Create warm connections with the ones you love. Eat warming foods and add warming spices to your diet.

(See some examples below!) Keep your home nice and warm and wear layers. If you can, even choose warmer, more drying climates to live in.

Kapha Balancing Exercise

Exercise is vital, and when it comes to motivating Kapha, you have to do what you can to keep moving.

When exercising, go for activities that require stamina. Some ideas include long-distance runs, hikes, or cycling. It may take a moment to get moving, but once you do, your natural strength will support you. Implementing regular exercise is the key to balance.
