Ayurveda Inclusivity

Why Ayurveda Holds the Key to Inclusivity

Ayurveda for all shapes, sizes, and colors? That’s right. The beauty of Ayurveda is that it creates a blueprint that helps us to all see how intricately connected we truly are. It’s in that connection that we are all very significant parts of a whole.

The elements of nature come together as building blocks to create every person’s constitution. From body shape to personality and even facial features, every single person can find themselves in Ayurveda!

When it comes to caring for yourself and your health, you can count on Ayurveda to be a SUPER inclusive wellness tool.

None of the remedies is one size fits all but instead fine-tuned to the needs of your body and your specific imbalances. What I love about this is that it eliminates the idea that Ayurveda is for some people and not for others.

Let’s take a deep look into the characteristics that show up in each dosha, from body shape to facial features and more! By the time you’re done reading, I can guarantee you’ll be able to find yourself in these descriptions as well as the people you know.

Bodies of All Shapes and Sizes

Women of all shapes and sizes

If you’re familiar with the doshas, then you may already know that the doshas can determine your body shape. Realizing this is a powerful way to promote acceptance within yourself.

There was a time in my life when I was insecure about my body, but when I discovered Ayurveda and learned what my dosha was, I realized that the way I’m built is a direct reflection of the characteristics of my dosha, which is pretty cool!

When you see how Ayurveda is for all shapes, sizes, and colors of the human race, you find how empowering it is to use the elements of nature to heal and define you.

The Vata body type

Vata people tend to be either very tall or very short, with thinner frames.

They may have more difficulty gaining weight and don’t tend to grow tons of muscle mass.

They typically have cold, rough, and dry skin and moles are not uncommon.

Hair is often dark in color, curl and dry.

Vata types are very active, and always on the move. However, they can also tire very easily.

The Pitta body type

Pitta people tend to be short with to medium height with a medium frame. They have no problem gaining muscle mass and tend to appear bold and strong.

Their skin is typically soft and more oily due to the water element of this constitution.

It’s not uncommon for Pitta types to have red hair. There is also a higher chance of premature greying or balding.

Pitta types have bursts of energy and can burn out easily if not careful.

The Kapha body type

Kapha people tend to be very well developed. They are sturdy and thick, with round shoulders and a muscular tone. It’s not uncommon for them to carry extra weight.

Their skin is typically soft and oily and their hair is thick and strong.

Kapha types are less active than others, but when they even out their activity, their energy can be sustained for long periods of time.

The Doshas and Facial Features

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Did you know that the nose, mouth, and even jawline, are also windows into the depths of who you are? Let me explain…

Vata Facial Features

Vata is a combination of ether and air, so a person with more Vata in their constitution tends to have more subtle features.

The shape of the face: Long and thin

Eyes: Dark and typically smaller and more subtle and at times sunken in.

Nose: Tends to be either small of long and narrow and sometimes turned upward

Lips: Thin and narrow

Complexion: Typically Vata types are darker in complexion, but they can be pale, too

Pitta Facial Features

Pitta is the combination of Fire and Water, and just like fire, their feature tends to be sharp and bold.

The shape of the face: Sharp and prominent jawline

Eyes: Tend to be green, grey, or yellow (sometimes blue) and are sharp and deeply penetrating

Nose: Sharp and prominent

Lips: Medium-sized

Complexion: Pale, yellowish, with red spots and often prone to freckles, acne, or rosacea

Kapha Facial Features

Kapha is a combination of Earth and Water and a Kapha dominant person tends to have more rounded, soft, and sturdy features.

The shape of the face: Round cheeks and jawline

Eyes: Dark round eyes with clear whites

Nose: Round and wide

Lips: Thick and full

Complexion: More oily thick skin typically olive and even in color

Most everyone has that one friend who’s incredibly calm and grounded… as well as the friend who thrives on competition and drive. We all have that one friend who can talk for hours and hours and never seems to be at a loss for words. Yep, Ayurveda has a place for them too!

Like I said… Ayurveda is inclusive for all shapes, sizes, and colors – personalities, too!

Harmony and Inclusivity

Women In Community

Whether it’s in an intimate relationship, professional environment, or even if you’re working together in community to promote change, understanding the pieces everyone brings to the table is the key to powerful inclusivity.

Vata types bring the element of creation. They have the ability to see the birds-eye view of many situations and take things lightly when others might be stuck in a space of taking things too seriously. They are great at initiating new projects and communication.

Pittas are true leaders. Not afraid to speak their mind. You can always rely on your Pitta dominant friends and loved ones to bring honest critique to any situation. Their opinions are always back by deep passion. If there is something you need to understand more deeply, you can rely on this person to be able to teach you in a very digestible way.

Kapha brings everyone together. They are truly the glue of any community. You can count on your Kapha counterparts to come to the table with snacks and a loving, listening ear. Their deep stability will bring a sense of calm to any situation.

It’s so important that we all have these vastly different ways of showing up because it’s our ability to arrive in our different roles that truly creates harmony.
